OLD SAN JUAN. This is one of the best spots in Old San Juan for a view of the ocean while you sip a margarita and munch on chips and bean dip. After a day of shopping, rest here and decide where you will eat dinner. Or stay at Amanda's and feast on stuffed chilies with tacos on the side or the interesting Swiss enchiladas stuffed with raisins and peanuts.

Quality ports, cognacs and liqueurs are available as well as many varieties of cigars. A revolving roster of local artists exhibit their work here so you can puff, sip and take in the local color, literally. Live jazz turns up the sophisticated vibe on Thursday and Friday nights.

ISLA VERDE. This chic gathering spot is popular with locals as well as guests of the hotel. At a long wooden bar located in the corner of the lobby, the well-heeled men and women with a taste for cigars and cognac can be seen through a haze of headily scented smoke until the wee hours of the morning.

OLD SAN JUAN. Few bars can claim to put the fun in funky the way that El Batey does: a dive bar decorated with graffiti and an old wooden bar that looks like it has seen better days, with its jukebox playing non-stop tunes from original 45s of the '60s and '70s. Join locals and cruise ship crews, down cold beer and rum drinks, shoot pool and groove to the tunes.
